D.I.Y. Popsicle Stick Puzzles

I'm a fan of crafts that can actually be put to use afterward, and these sweet puzzles can be done over and over again.  Below are instructions for two types of puzzles, the first one requires a photograph and the second one allows for you create your own personal design.

Recommended Age 3+

Photo Popsicle Puzzle

SUPPLIES:

Popsicle Sticks (Craft Sticks) 17-18
Glue Stick Or Glue
Exacto Knife
Photograph

Step 1

Lay Popsicles flat in a column or row, depending on your photograph.  Make sure you have enough to extend past the length or width of the photograph.  When using a 4x6 photo you need approximately 17 sticks.

Step 2

Once your sticks are lined up evenly you can apply the glue to the back of your photo and stick it to the popsicle sticks.  Let dry completely before cutting.  You should have something that looks like this...

Step 3

Once the glue has dried completely, place your photo and sticks on a cutting mat and use the exacto knife to cut the photo and the popsicle sticks apart.  You are currently creating your puzzle pieces.

Step 4

You are now ready to complete your puzzle, it's as easy as that!

Popsicle Puzzle with Drawing

SUPPLIES:

Popsicle Sticks (Craft Sticks)
Painters Tape
Markers or Paint Pens

Step 1

Lay out popsicles evenly in a row or column depending on what you would like to draw.  Using some sort of straight edge to line them up makes the process a lot easier.

Step 2

Once you have your sticks lined up, place 1 or 2 strips of painters tape on the back.  This is going to hold the sticks in place while you create your drawing...

Step 3

Draw your puzzle image using either markers, paint, or I found that paint pens work the best...

Shapes and letters are great for little ones to put together...

Since Easter is around the corner we did some themed ones as well...

Step 4

Once your drawing is complete remove the tape and mix up the pieces and get to solving!
