Every thing you need to know, from a skier mom of four boys, about buying a ski helmet for your kids this winter.
I'd recommend buying a ski helmet for your child if skiing is a regular activity, meaning you take at least one trip a year. This ensures the right fit, comfort, and familiarity. However, if it's a sporadic thing, renting could be cost-effective, but remember they will outgrow clothing much quicker then helmets, as head shape doesn't tend to change drastically.
1. **Proper Fit:** Ensure that the ski helmet fits snugly on your kids head with still being confirtable. It should sit level on their head and cover the forehead, providing protection without obstructing vision.
2. **Safety Certification:** Look for ski helmets that meet recognized safety standards, such as ASTM F2040 or CE EN1077. Certification ensures that the helmet has undergone testing for impact protection.
3. **Ventilation:** Choose a helmet with ventilation features. Proper ventilation helps regulate temperature, keeping your kids comfortable during various weather conditions on the slopes.
4. **Goggle Compatibility:** Check if the ski helmet is compatible with your mom's ski goggles. A good fit between the helmet and goggles ensures proper coverage and prevents any gaps that could expose the face to cold or impact. Many kids helmets are sold in sets with both the helmet and google ensuring for a good fit.
5. **Adjustability:** Opt for a helmet with adjustable features like a dial for fine-tuning the fit. Adjustable straps and buckles also contribute to a customized and secure fit, enhancing both comfort and safety.
6. MIPS Technology: Consider helmets with MIPS technology for added rotational impact protection, enhancing overall safety on the slopes. This is an extra safety feature, it's additional security but not required.
Here are my top picks for best ski helmets for kids and toddlers...
The helmet my 7 and 9 year old boys wear this helmet and its great.
Here are a few more Smith options that are also great helmets...
This first one is for toddlers with head a head circumference from 48-56 cm and is under $50. It is sold both as a helmet alone and a google and helmet set.
Next we have the youth ski helmet by Outdoor Master, I have included two, one with the Mips safety feature and one with out. It will substantially change the price of the helmet.

These amazing zipper pouches I use for everything, from diapers and wipes to snacks and even a place for a wet bathing suit. They come in four sizes and so many fun prints.
Cube Storage
I'm embarrassed to say how many of these cube storage units I own. I use them in the playroom, kids rooms and even my entryway. I love that you can change the style with the baskets and bins you use. Plus they are insanely affordable.
And here's a few more organization favorites that I use in my home!

Their new line of swim wear with VIX a well established swim brand since early 2000 may be one of my favorite swim capsules I have seen in a while. Sticking with the basics of black white they have added a bohemian flare with beaded details, textured straps and 24 K gold embellishments and clasps.
This may be one of my favorites, this triangle top two piece comes in both black and white. The seed bead wrapped strap down the back give it an extra boho flair.

AND SOME MORE BASKETS WE LOVE....Tap photo to shop
1. If you're renting a car most rental car companies have the option to rent car seats. If you don't want to haul them with you this is the way to go.
2. If you've hired a private car company to pick you up from the airport, you usually can request a car seat, that's not always an option, but worth asking.
3. If you're flying you can check car seats and strollers for free. I think even the super budget airlines don't even charge you. So if you want to bring the car seats with you, you can check them when you check your luggage. I highly recommend putting them in some sort of protective bag, because as we all know, airlines don't give a crap about your personal belongings. Here is the bag I use, Car Seat Travel Bag
4. You can carry a car seat onto the plane. Power to you this is not an option I have chosen in the past because the last thing I need is more things to carry in the airport with four kids. However, I've recently started to reconsider because for one car seats make it easier for toddlers to sleep mid flight and two it keeps the squirmy ones contained in one place. I'll let you know if I ever decide to do it. There are lots of helpful products though if you do consider hauling your car seat through the airport.
Car Seat Travel Belt Car Seat Trolley
5. Car seats are NOT REQUIRED for children of any age on an airplane and all children 2 and under can fly sitting in your lap, meaning you don't have to buy them thier own seat. If you have a child who can not sit on their own yet and you buy them a seat, you can hold them for take off and landing.
And now moving on to the important part...
The inflatable booster has proven to be the best when it comes to travel. Blows up in just a few easy breaths, roughly about 20 seconds. Deflates easily, slides into a bag which can easily be packed and weighs basically nothing.
It's mind blowing but there is really only one car seat for toddlers on the market made for travel and it's the Way B. Yes it’s expensive, but worth every penny. This easy to install compact, foldable, lightweight (ONLY 8 POUNDS) forward facing car seat has gone with us everywhere. Made for kids 22-50 pounds and 30-45 inches tall it’s a great option for your toddlers 2 and up. I highly recommend buying the carrier bag especially if it’s one you plan to check or carry through the airport.
This just made traveling with an infant so much easier, the Doona is a rear facing infant car seat. I remember the days trying to juggle holding my infant while detaching the infant car seat from the stroller and having to then fold the stroller down at the bottom of the jet bridge. Not to mention trying to get it in one of those gate check protective bags. This is going to blow your mind but you can fold this stroller down to a car seat with your babe still in it. It’s just FREAKING BRILLIANT!
Hopefully this answers some questions and gives you a little bit more confidence when you hop on your next flight.
You've Got This!

Here are my must haves for getting your infants and toddlers to sleep through the night on your next trip...
I'm not going to waist time giving you different options because there is only one I love. I used with all four boys over an 8 year span and it still works great. Weighing only 11 pounds it's super easy to carry and can be opened easily in one move. I also like it because yes I can actually get in it and lie with my child, because yes it's come to that some nights.
It's small it's compact, you can slip into your carry on or clip it on to your stroller. This sound machine can go absolutely everywhere with you. It has 3 soothing sounds, choose from bright white noise, deep white noise, or gentle surf. Charges by USB and can go an entire night on one charge.
If you have a toddler that can crawl out of the pack n play you need THIS! I have this exact brand of crib tent on my crib at home and it works great. Easy to install and pops right open when you pull it out of it's storage bag. I highly recommend this, especially if your at a place near water, or for the lucky ones out on a yacht, this keeps your toddler from escaping and going places they shouldn't.
Yes, they exist! And they are not just for kids. I even use them at home in rooms where my curtains still let in a lot of light during nap time. This fold up black out curtain has suction cups all along the edges that attach to pretty much any window leaving the room, YES, COMPLETLY BLACK.
And because I always think optionally is good...here are a few more items that will help that toddler of yours sleep in a new environment.

This solid gold custom necklace is one of my favorites, I own three and wear them on a daily basis...great for kids names, or anything you choose The possibilities are endless!

I know you have 12 photos in that phone of yours that will be perfect for this calendar.
Style doesn't get more classic than this. A clutch that goes with everything.
The perfect stocking stuffer!
Choose your favorite books and they will create you a piece of art. The perfect gift for the book lover. Books you can hang on the wall.
The pattern options are endless or this cute zippered pouch.
A perfect gift for your co-workers!
Quick Tip: Stay away from the lighter color jackets, they get into all sorts of stuff at ski school that can stain that very expensive jacket you just purchased.
And for my older boys I am also a total Burton glove convert. They by far are the warmest and totally waterproof. I am also a fan of Heastras and as the boys get older they are leaning more to that brand. I've linked both below, you can't go wrong with either. I do love the Burtons for the front zip pocket for hand warmers.
These are made for big powder days, with a longer wrist guard and drawstring pull to keep snow out. Great for kids ages 3 and up
These are great for both winter and spring skiing. They tighten at the wrist and along the bottom to keep snow out and the gloves securely on. Made for ages 3 and up
6. Moving on to the feet, ski socks. This is easy because there is only one brand that we wear in our house and that's Smartwool. For kids it's pretty much a one style fits all.
7. Don't forget the neck! My kids usually prefer to go without this, but when it's freezing the neck gator is essential. Turtle fur has been making gators for years, I seriously think I have had the same one since high school. The fleece is the best for warmth and so soft on the face.
And if they are in to prints, this one has a fleece interior and a comfort shell performance fabric on the outside. we own and love this one in multiple colors.
And on the coldest of days the baclava is essential. It slides under their helmet and we even layer a neck warmer from above over it.
And just a friendly reminder, LABEL EVERYTHING, ski school is a place where ski gear goes to get lost. We are currently on our third pair of googles this year.
8. Last but not least, the snow boot that gets you to and from ski school, because we all know how unpleasant walking in ski boots can be. I swear by the Sorel Commander boot, I have tried so many boots that took forever to wiggle my kids feet into, but THESE my three year old can easily put on himself.
And for the older boys, I love these...
Happy Shredding!
